Coronavirus: Childcare Sustainability Fund

News article

NOTE: The Childcare Sustainability Support Fund closed to applications at 4pm on Friday 9 April 2021.

The Covid-19 Childcare Sustainability Support Fund has been extended to cover the period of 1 January to 31 March 2021.

The fund will provide vital financial support:

  • to eligible registered childcare providers who are continuing to operate at this challenging time
  • with ongoing unavoidable fixed costs for those providers who have temporarily suspended their services due to a lack of demand for their provision during this period

Eligibility criteria

The Childcare Sustainability Fund (Phase 3 - Jan to Mar 2021) is now open for applications from eligible daycare and school-aged childcare settings, childminders, crèches and playgroups who are operational during the period 1 January 2021 to 31 March 2021.

How much funding could I receive?

Funding will be allocated to eligible providers based on the type and/or size of provision. This information is available or will be collected from the Family Support NI database.

You can find the amounts allocated per type and size of provider in the tables on the Early Years – the Organisation for Young Children website.

If you have received a payment from the Covid-19 Childcare Temporary Closure Fund for a full closure of your setting, and are making an application for sustainability funding, you will only receive payment under the sustainability funding grant for the days that you were open in the relevant month.

How to apply

Eligible providers will receive an email from Family Support NI inviting them to apply. If you think you may be eligible for this funding and haven’t received an email from Family Support NI, you should contact the Early Years Childcare Support Fund team at

Deadline for applications

This fund will close on Friday 9 April 2021 at 16:00. Late applications will not be accepted.
