Fund designed to invest in infrastructure that improves everyday life across the UK with £4.8 billion support through to 2024-25

The UK Government has launched the second round of the Levelling Up Fund. Businesses, voluntary and community sector organisations and councils can benefit.

The Levelling Up Fund is designed to invest in infrastructure that improves everyday life across the UK. The £4.8 billion fund will support town centre and high street regeneration, local transport projects, and cultural and heritage assets.

Across Northern Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales, unitary authorities (including metropolitan borough councils), London borough councils and district councils in two-tier areas in England are eligible to submit bids for the second round of the Levelling Up Fund which was announced in the 2022 Spring Statement.

In addition to local councils, the UK government will accept bids from a range of local applicants in NI, including but not limited to businesses, universities, voluntary and community sector organisations, district councils, the NI Executive, and other public sector bodies.

The second round of the Fund will look to build on the first round, which saw £1.7 billion awarded to 105 successful projects across the UK, and focuses on the same three investment themes:

  • transport investments
  • regeneration and town centre investment
  • cultural investment

Investment proposals should focus on supporting high-priority and high-impact projects that will make a visible positive difference to local areas. What constitutes priority investment will vary across local authorities and geographies, including rural areas.

You can apply for the Levelling Up Fund by signing up through the dedicated portal accessed from the application form. Before applying, applicants should familiarise themselves with eligibility criteria, assessment and decision-making processes.
