Tourism Northern Ireland operates the UK-wide tourist accommodation grading scheme. This is designed to give business owners a clear idea of the standards of accommodation, service and hospitality that are expected at each star grade.
As well as awarding a star grade, businesses will benefit from:
- one-to-one advice from a team of experienced Quality Advisors
- a written report highlighting the strengths of the business alongside potential areas for improvement
- access to Tourism NI marketing support
While it is a legal obligation for all tourist accommodation providers to have a certificate from Tourism NI in order to trade, participation in the Quality Assurance Grading Scheme is voluntary.
For serviced accommodation premises the inspections require an initial overnight stay. Premises have the ability to achieve a grading of between one to five stars. Costs to participate depend on category of accommodation and number of units for self catering.
