In Autumn 2022 and Spring 2023, Maritime UK and its network of regional cluster organisations around the UK hosted a number of update and networking events on behalf of the Department for Transport (DfT).

The aim of these sessions was to provide information on Round 3 of the following competitions:

  • Clean Maritime Demonstration competition (CMDC)
  • Zero Emission Vessels & Infrastructure competition
  • Clean Maritime Research Hub competition

A further round of CMDC update and networking events has now been scheduled to take place across the UK, including in Northern Ireland.

Northern Ireland regional event

Hosted in partnership with Invest Northern Ireland, a regional CMDC update event will take place at Invest NI's offices in Bedford Street, Belfast on Thursday 27 July 2023.

DfT, Innovate UK and Innovate UK KTN officials will be in attendance.

Register to attend the regional CMDC event in Northern Ireland.

National event

Regional events will follow on from a national CMDC industry engagement event on Wednesday 12 July 2023, which will be delivered in London and online by the DfT, Innovate UK and Innovate UK KTN.

Stakeholders from across the maritime sector and supporting industries are invited to attend these important events about the next stage of the CMDC programme.

The events will aim to explain the latest opportunities to engage with the CMDC programme and deliver the transition to clean maritime, and provide an opportunity to network with other organisations.

Additionally, as part of the national event, CMDC2 projects and other organisations with project ideas will be encouraged to pitch their plans to develop their technologies beyond CMDC2.

Register to join the national CMDC update event.

About the Clean Maritime Demonstration competition

CMDC is a multi-year programme offering funding to help bring pre-commercial technologies to market level. This has so far included:

  • £23 million allocated as part of the first round
  • £12 million allocated as part of the second round
  • £60 million allocated as part of the third round

UK Shipping Office for Reducing Emissions (UK SHORE) committed to a fourth CMDC round later in 2023. This will build on CMDC2 projects, although there is no requirement for interested stakeholders to have participated in previous rounds.
