Consultation event | Have your say on the Short Occupation List

News article

Views sought from organisations on the recruitment challenges in Northern Ireland related to the Skilled Worker route.

The Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) launched a call for evidence to hear organisations' views on the roles that are being filled by migrant workers, the salaries they are paid, and the implications of potential changes.

Shortage Occupation List (SOL)

The responses will facilitate the review of the SOL. The SOL is a list of skilled worker jobs that the UK government deems to be in short supply. For jobs on the SOL, the immigration rules for work visas are relaxed, making it easier for overseas workers with the relevant skills to come to the UK.

The closing date for responses is Friday 26 May 2023.

Northern Ireland stakeholder event

As part of its stakeholder engagement, the MAC is holding an online event specifically for Northern Ireland stakeholders in recognition of the unique circumstances that apply here.

This session is an opportunity for stakeholders to ensure that the MAC is aware of the labour market challenges and recruitment difficulties facing Northern Ireland and to highlight the need for a Northern Ireland-specific Shortage Occupation List.
