Extended grace period for the movement of veterinary medicines

News article

Northern Ireland set to retain access to essential veterinary medicines from 1 January 2023.

The European Commission has announced a three year extension to the grace period for veterinary medicines until 31 December 2025.

These arrangements will mean that the current processes for moving veterinary medicines between Great Britain and Northern Ireland will continue to be administered as they have been up to this point.

The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) Information Hub guidance pages reflect the arrangement to extend the grace period for veterinary medicines.

VMD welcome feedback from businesses and comments should be emailed to niprotocol@vmd.gov.uk.

VMD are also encouraging businesses to continue to communicate their sectors’ needs to the European Commission including the need to find a solution for veterinary medicines.
