Up to £20 million is available over three strands of the 'Better Food for All' competition

Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation, will offer funding support to UK registered businesses developing innovative solutions to address significant nutrition challenges.

To be eligible, projects must have the potential to impact the nutritional quality of food and drink products consumed by the UK population.

Projects can focus on:

  • enhancing the nutritional quality of foods and ingredients
  • functional foods with specific health benefits
  • stratified nutrition
  • fortified and biofortified foods
  • plant-based and alternative proteins
  • preservation, packaging and storage technologies to increase shelf life

The competition aims to attract innovations that:

  • can improve nutrition in commonly eaten products
  • are affordable and accessible to all
  • are sustainable in the context of environmental challenges
  • minimise negative effects such as pollution, food loss and waste

The competition is split into three strands: early-stage, mid-stage and late-stage. It is your responsibility to ensure you submit your application to the correct strand for your project.

You will need to collaborate with at least one other organisation to apply for this funding.

The 'Better Food for All: Innovation for improved nutrition' competition opens on 11 January and closes on 29 March 2023.
