GBIP in India: Sustainable plastic

News article

Explore global opportunities in sustainable plastic solutions

Innovate UK is calling for innovative UK businesses to apply to its latest Global Business Innovation Programme (GBIP) in India.

The programme is aimed at companies developing innovative solutions for plastic waste management, recycling, and sustainability.

Focus areas include:

  • chemical and dissolution recycling technologies
  • transitioning from problematic plastics to more easily recycled substances
  • reuse and refill solutions
  • data capture and management for EPR compliance
  • mechanical sorting and recycling technologies
  • adding value in the plastic recycling sector

Why India?

India has a dynamic innovation ecosystem and a growing need to manage its plastic waste. In 2019, India recycled just 8% of its plastic waste, generating nearly 26,000 tonnes daily. To address this, India aims for 100% reusable, recyclable, or compostable plastic packaging by 2030. The government's Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Guidelines and initiatives like the India Plastics Pact are creating opportunities for UK businesses in technology transfer and R&D.

Why should you apply?

Participating in this GBIP will allow you to showcase UK-leading technologies in circular plastics, improve your company's value proposition, and explore business opportunities in India.

You will also have the opportunity to:

  • join preparatory workshops in the UK
  • join a five-day tailored innovation visit to India in September 2024
  • join a follow-up exploitation workshop
  • get support from an Innovate UK Innovation and Growth Specialist

If you want to build collaborations and expand your business in this Indian market, you can attend the applicant briefing on 11 June 2024 to learn more.

The deadline for applications to the programme is 7 July 2024.
