Innovate UK is calling for innovative UK businesses to apply to its latest Global Business Innovation Programme (GBIP) in South Korea

The programme is aimed at businesses working on digital and data driven innovations that provide sustainable urban solutions to:

  • future mobility
  • disaster prevention and management
  • clean energy optimisation
  • safety and security
  • buildings - heating/cooling
  • circular economy

Why South Korea?

South Korea is home to some of the largest global technology companies and is considered one of the most technologically advanced economies in the world. According to the World Economic Forum, the country ranks second in terms of technology readiness and innovation.

For over two decades, South Korea has been developing modern infrastructure and superfast connectivity to solve urban problems and improve the quality of life in urban centres through smart and disruptive technologies.

In the Smart City Korea plan, the government has prioritised smart city pilot projects in Sejong, Busan and Daegu and has set out to adopt 64 local smart city platforms by 2025, integrating geographic information systems, tech platforms, IoT and artificial intelligence.

South Korea is eager to work with other countries on smart city projects and has programmes with the UK to support research and development, creating big opportunities for UK businesses with smart city solutions.
