Event to explore how businesses can innovate responsibly

On 29 November 2024, Belfast Harbour Commissioners will host the Responsible Innovation Conference, bringing together business leaders, technology experts, and academics to discuss the ethical implications of technology.

The conference will focus on how businesses can innovate responsibly, covering important topics such as:

  • artificial intelligence (AI) ethics
  • sustainable technology
  • corporate responsibility
  • the circular economy

Keynote speakers include:

  • Adrian Johnston MBE, Belfast's new Innovation Commissioner
  • Paul Batterham, Head of Innovation at Kainos
  • Katherine Yesilirmak, Deputy Director of Strategy in the Responsible Tech Adoption Unit, Department of Science, Innovation and Technology

Claire Halliday, Co-Founder of Ormeau Baths, will lead a discussion on fostering a startup ecosystem in Northern Ireland, and Dr. Virginia Portillo will share insights on developing trustworthy AI, highlighting her recent work with Kainos on responsible technology practices.

Curated by Kainos and supported by Digital Catapult, Matrix, Belfast Harbour, Belfast City Council and Ulster University, the conference aims to help businesses understand how to integrate ethical considerations into their innovation strategies.

Participants will learn about managing the social and environmental impacts of technology while driving growth and innovation. The event will also include networking opportunities, allowing attendees to exchange ideas and collaborate on responsible business practices.
