Soil Nutrient Health Scheme is open for registration

News article

Farmers in North Tyrone and Co Derry/Londonderry can now register for the Soil Nutrient Health Scheme

The Soil Nutrient Health Scheme, funded by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (DAERA) and managed by the Agri-Food & Biosciences Institute (AFBI), helps farmers to better match slurry, fertiliser, and lime applications to crop needs. This improves efficiency and reduces environmental impact.

Who can apply?

Farm businesses across North Tyrone and County Derry/Londonderry are now invited to register. Those in Zones 1 and 2 who haven’t signed up yet have also an opportunity to join.

Why should you apply?

The scheme will provide the farmers with:

  • detailed information on soil nutrient levels
  • runoff risk maps showing nutrient loss to water bodies for each sampled field
  • estimates of carbon stored in their soils and above ground biomass for each farm
  • training on the interpretation of soil nutrient reports and creating farm nutrient plans provided by the College of Agriculture Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE)

Joining the training is required to receive payments under future farm support schemes.
