Support for responsible driving and avoiding the Fatal Five

News article

Useful information and activities for businesses to educate and support people who drive a daily commute or drive for their jobs.

Business in the Community has launched a new campaign to help employers put people first when it comes to safety on Northern Ireland’s roads.

The rate of road deaths in Northern Ireland is around one a week. Data shows that around one-third of all road traffic collisions involve someone driving to, from or for work, and businesses can play a role in helping to reduce such incidents.

The "Responsible Business and the Fatal Five" project is funded by The Road Safety Trust, and will be delivered in partnership with the Police Service of Northern Ireland and U105.

The project aims to support hundreds of employees through to June 2026 with in-depth guidance, advice and visits on road safety, and will make available a range of resources for all employers.

It will focus on the message that many collisions could be avoided if people become more aware of five fatal things to avoid:

  • drink or drug driving
  • using a mobile phone
  • not using seatbelts
  • speeding
  • careless driving
