Open Doors for the future construction workforce

News article

Get engaged with school groups and careers changers eager to see behind the scaffolding in your construction business.

Open Doors, delivered by Build UK and with local support from Construction Futures NI, takes visitors behind the scenes to showcase the fantastic range of careers available in the construction industry. You can take part by opening your sites, offices, builders’ merchants, training and manufacturing facilities across Northern Ireland.

The NI construction sector needs to recruit over 5,000 new entrants in the next five years. Open Doors provides a unique opportunity for young people and career changers to go behind the scenes and discover what the industry has to offer.

The event will run from Tuesday 18 to Saturday 22 March 2025, giving your business the opportunity to welcome students, teachers and groups for tours, workshops, skills sessions and more.

Schools and colleges typically require advance notice to organise visits, so visitor pre-registration is now open. Local schools are already expressing their interest - don’t miss this opportunity to connect them to your site.

For local logistical support, you can email Jenni Marshall at jenni@constructionfuturesni.com for help and guidance on creating your event profile, and any other queries you can email Fionnuala McKenna at fionnuala@constructionfuturesni.com.

Site registrations are particularly encouraged in the Down and Armagh areas as schools have begun to pre-register in these areas.

Find out more about Open Doors 2025 and how to register your site.

Sites should be registered by Friday 20 December 2024.
